In the Mountains Closer to the Sky
Marat Kalitin, a former owner of the detective agency “Bars”, leaves for the Pamir Mountains to investigate the mysterious events at the Yazgulemski Ridge. The events for investigation are explosion in the tunnel where the film was shot, and the fate of people who disappeared after the explosion.
Marat is also looking for Larisa, a member of the film crew, upon her husband’s request. Unfortunately, she is found dead, and the question arises who murdered her. Another question is if her death is associated with the gold nugget she recently discovered?
Little by little it dawns on Marat that the roots of the weird events go back to the ancient times and are connected not only with long disappeared earthly civilizations, but with outer-space life too.
This is a part of “Gold” series which includes four novels:
– Book 1 – In the temple of Sun the trees are made of gold
– Book 2 – In the mountains closer to the sky
– Book 3 – The steps of Gods
– Book 4 – Easy steps in the Ocean.
In this book, the story acquires a “cosmic fantasy” twist, and it is no longer a Russian mystical detective, but the chronicle of civilization which depended on gold and sought it everywhere. The quest for the mysterious source of gold led several “cosmic travelers” to the Earth, and they could not find peace until they completed the mission. At last, a new hope dawned on them that the long-sought Eul should be found, and where do you think it would be? Right in the mountains where the film was shot!
Cosmic fantasy is not a new word in the world literature, but in this context the unusual story accounts for all participants’ actions beautifully, it shows what was really important for them and what was a passing moment to be easily led behind. But no matter how “cosmic visitors” longed for their Home, not everybody was ready to leave the Earth. Because love is the greatest force and sometimes it is stronger than the love for the motherland.
The plot seems to “close up” in this book, and it is a natural question – is everything over? NO! Two more books are ahead so I think the mystery of gold is not completely resolved, and the story still has an undiscovered potential.
